Queensland
Queensland was originally a part of New South Wales, and the capital Brisbane started out as a penal colony for convicts from Britain. Free settlers soon followed and Queensland (named after the Queen of Britain) became a separate colony in 1859.
Queensland is the second biggest state in Australia and has a mostly tropical climate. There are basically two seasons in Queensland, wet and dry. Queensland is known as the "Sunshine State" because winter is pleasantly warm and there are lots of hours of sunshine.
